Soft plastic worms come in many shapes and sizes, all of which have a place. They're far and away the most versatile lure on the market. They are effective on their own or as trailers. Large presentations over 10 " have pulled monster bass from Falcon lake while finesse worms on drop shot rigs have been used to fool even the most wary of bass. My personal 'go-to' bait is a Zoom Trick Worm texas rigged weightless or with a tungsten weight if needed. You can use it as a top-water, in weeds, over stumps, or weigh it down and throw it into rock piles in 20 or more feet of water. Nothing rivals the classic worm! The Tube bait is one the most versatile bass lures available. It catches large- and smallmouths alike and can be used in any waters at almost any temperature to catch fish. Its versatility and ability to mimic so many things get it the No. 2 ranking. Try a Berkeley Powerbait 3 " or 4 " in Pumpkinseed or Green Pumpkin in any water you fish. My favorite is a Texas-Rig with a tungsten weight. The tungsten weight makes a clicking oise as it bounces across structure, the sound helps bass search it out. The tube gets its place at No. 2 due to its incredible success catching small mouth bass. It is my No. 1 'go-to' bait for small mouth.

That's a question that's gonna get a lot of different opinions lol. Just depends on a lot of conditions and variables. If I'm goin to a body of water that's new to me, I always tie on a spinnerbait first. Once I find the fish I use a worm. Usually. Sometimes the spinnerbait works better. Sometimes a topwater bait works better. My favorite lure to fish with though is any kind of topwater lure. I just love seein that big poppa slam it and splash everywhere!

A spinner bait would be my choice if forced to use one lure

Jenna is correct. (Thumbs up) Soft Plastic's account for more Bass in more waters than any other lure choice. Can a different category of lure be better on some days? Yes! But, on the whole, Soft Plastic's are #1. Soft Plastic's include Worms in various sizes, Tubes, Creature Baits, & Flukes/ Jerk-shads. Typically, during a "general " Bass season, your best lures will break down like this: 1. Spring- Crankbaits, Soft Plastics/ Lizard/ Creature, Jigs, Spinnerbaits. 2. Summer- Various Soft Plastic's, Jigs, Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits. 3. Fall- Crankbaits, Soft Plastics, Jigs, Spinnerbaits. 4. Winter- Soft Plastic.

It depends. If your throwing to the banks that's one approach. If your fishing suspended that's another. And if their deep, well, a top water bait just ain't gone get it, unless it calls them up. Determine the conditions. If your in snarly stuff, a Texas rigged worm or lizard will work well. They seem to love the lizards with all the action they make. A snagless jig will work well with a trailer. The problem here is bass relate to things and usually stick close to them. Laydowns, objects, shade and usually near structure that allows them easy access to feeding areas. The tricky part is throwing a bait into the areas they like to hang out in. If they're on a laydown (a tree laying in the water) they're usually on the shadow side and tight to it, if not under it. You've got to put the bait where they can see it or sense it.That means you have to bump cover alot. Suspended fish, good luck. And deep fish it gets harder. When they're on the banks and in the shallows they're usually hunting and aggressive. When they're suspended it could be to move shallow or a just in transition, what ever that may mean. Here crankbaits, spinnerbaits, etc. work. For deep fish you go to your jigs, worms, deep diving crankbaits, falling spinnerbaits. But the presentation changes. You're either fishing horizontal or vertical. Trying to figure it all out is what makes bass fishing, in my opinion, the most fun. It also makes you, in my opinion, as practiced with a rod and reel as you probably ever get. Because you're trying to throw to a target much of the time. You may overhand cast, side arm cast, under hand cast, loop cast, flip or pitch and whatever else you can think of to get your bait exactly where that rascal bass is going to be. It's all fun.

These are the only things I fish: spinnerbaits, crankbaits, spro frog/ topwater and wacky rigged senkos. If the bass in the pond are small I will move to a small inline spinner with a size 4 french blade.
