I used a small spinner for large mouth bass. It is tricky though. You can get caught up on the lilly pads. After a few times though you learn to stay away from them. I also like to use little neon plastic worms, the fish are attracted to them on bright sunny days. Well good luck.

The trick is not to let it get tangled in the weeds, in your case Lilly pads. They make "weedless " lures that have something guarding the hock but still allow it to catch the fish. This helps but it still isn't foolproof. I'd recommend trying to retrieve the lure just on the outside parallel to the Lilly pads, with what? It all depends. Time of day, time of year, water conditions are just a few of the variables.

Plastic floating frogs are great and also get the plastic worms that float. Just throw them on top the pads and work them very slow. I have good luck casting to the bank and then very slowly work to the water and on the pads. It will blow your mind when the big bass comes through. I have had them hit it and miss and knock it 5 or 6 feet away and turn and go after it again.

Use a top water frog lure. They work wonders around heavy topwater cover
