This is just a generalization of lures for the spring (for me). Plastic salamander Buzzbait Chatterbait Spinnerbait (I like white) Dropshot with Roboworms Wackyworm on senkos or trick worms. Also what to consider is how are you fishing the lake? On a boat or from shore? If its deep water, opt for dropshotting or plastics, surface/ sub surface lures are tough, better around shoreline areas. |

You've mention two good lures, to that I would suggest swim baits, soft and hard bodies. Rattle traps in a craw fish color can be very effective in pre spawn. Bedding bass will attack plastic lizards. With the clear water a fluorocarbon line no more than 14 lb will be helpful. Fish the plastics with little or no weight if possible. I left out spinner baits, DUH, I keep at least two rods rigged with them! |

Depends on the cover, from what I've found. Since the fish are fairly inactive through winter, once the water warms up they are going to get hungry pre-spawn. So, throwing anything that rattles will help get their attention. Also, something like a zoom fluke can help because you can fish it slow or you can swim it fast. Something loud and shiny in murky water, something more natural in clear water. It also depends where the fish are. If they are suspending, IE not on the surface, but not on the bottom either, you won't get any action with a jig, and if they are on bottom, a topwater (IE Buzzbait, frog, etc.) won't get anything. Also, bass spawn in spring time. When they are spawning, they aren't eating. Your goal then is to annoy them so they attack the bait out of defense of the next and anger rather than providing food. That's why bedding bass go for salamanders. |

Depends on how good you got over the summer. But if it's only been a year and if your still with a spinning rod you should really try tube baits. gizzit makes good kits and you can get them at walmart for around 12bucks. Use them on 6lb test and with a 7ft ML rod. 75% percent of your strikes will come while its sinking so pay close attention to your line.. And reel it back at a normal speed with some jigging mixed in. Another good lure that will never let you down is a Blue ox Super Vibrax spinner in size 2 or 3 in silver or gold. Goodluck! |
